Historic woodsplint baskets
in New England were typically woven of Black ash (Fraxinus nigra), which
was sometimes referred to as brown ash or White Oak (Quercus alba). Less
frequently hickory, maple, chestnut, poplar or other wood species were used. To learn more about the history and
