Archaeology Of Basketry

The study of basketry in the context of archaeology. Archaeological sites where digs have included remnants of basketry, current researchers and cultural history as it relates to baskets and basketmakers in early history.

2,900 Year Old Pack Basket
Fragments of a burden basket were found in the snow fields of Observation Point in Olympic National Park. It is typical of others found in coastal sites in Washington and British Columbia.

Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indian History
Settled in the Palm Springs area and developed extensive and complex canyon communities. Known to use the Washingtonia filifera or Desert Fan Palm; a native palm tree in basketry.

Basketry-Related Research in the Northern Great Basin
A history of research begun by Luther S. Cressman and his students  conducted from the early 1930s, in places like Butte Creek Cave, Pine Hollow Caves 1-2, Crooked River Cave, including maps.
